Year 1

To all our P1 families,

We are so devastated that we will not be able to see our wonderful little pupils for a while. This is a very difficult and overwhelming situation that we find ourselves in. We are so sad that our classrooms will be empty for a number of weeks, but we really hope to see our little P1s in the near future.

Meanwhile, we've gathered together a few links to some great learning sites that you might like to access with your child.

On our school facebook page you might have seen a link to a now freely available online book resource called myON by Renaissance. We've checked it out and there are loads of books  - the amount of text might be a wee bit much for P1 to read themselves, but there's an option to listen to the book being read and follow along with the highlighted words. We're loving the Pets section of the site very much!

Topmarks is a fun site that has lots of fun online games and activities for all areas of the curriculum.

The BBC schools radio site has some lovely songs and nursery rhymes for early years, accompanied by some fun little videos.

Abcya.com is an American site that is free to access with a laptop or PC and has lots of lovely fun and educational games for young children

The Oxford Owl site has free ebooks at different levels  where your child can read the continuing adventures of Biff, Chip, Kipper and of course Floppy the dog!

Teach your monster to read   is a fun literacy site which helps children master the first steps in reading. It's free to play on a PC or laptop or you can download the app.

The Imagination Tree is a fantastic site with endless ideas for craft, dough and messy play, including recipes for every kind of slime imaginable!

Dltk-kids has lots of simple and fun craft ideas for you and your little one to do together.

Starfall.com is another American site which has some simple online books and literacy activities.

Crickweb.co.uk has some fun online Maths games for Early Years

P.E. with Joe is a super initiative from the YouTube Channel The Body Coach TV to keep our little ones moving on a daily basis. Tune in to the channel every weekday morning at 9am for a fun workout, and check out some of his kids workouts to do at home too!

The Learning Station is another lovely YouTube channel which has some great 'Brain Break' videos to get your kids moving! We love the 'Move and Freeze' one in P1!

We know our little P1 pupils love to draw - and Art for Kids Hub is a lovely YouTube channel that Miss Farren has discovered. It's a simple step by step simple guide to drawing lots of brilliant pictures! The P1 teachers are loving How to draw an Easter Pug Bunny - which one is your favourite?

These are just a few of the sites that you can access with your child, but please remember to set a limit for daily online activities. We would encourage your child to continue their playful learning within the home; having fun with their toys, building with blocks, playing with dough and getting out in the garden for a bit of fresh air and exercise.

We will be thinking about you often and we trust and pray that each one of you will stay safe and keep well.

Best wishes,

J. Laird, L. Smith, N. Farren, Joanne and Elizabeth.
